 About Shane Worley Music
I started singing, or humming, before I learned to talk. Music has always been a vital part of my life. I made my "debut" when I was five years old. I sang the Waylon song "Good Ole Boys" at a PTA meeting. By the time I was sixteen, I was playing the local bars on weekends. In 1997, I released my first album, and have done five more since then with Country Discovery Records out of South Pittsburg. Due to the overseas marketing, I have been fortunate enough to travel to Europe several times to do shows and festivals for the good folks across the pond. In 1999, I was honored by the European Country Music Association when I won awards for Song of the Year(Waltzing Margarita), Artist of the Year, and Male Vocalist of the Year. I am currently concentrating on my songwriting, and am making plans to release another album later this year.

Selling your mp3's directly at CDBABY

Don't you love it when you find out that something you already have can do much more than you realized?

Check this out, and hopefully you will bob your head and say, "Niiiiiiiice...." in your cool-but-impressed voice.

You know you can sell your entire album as MP3 downloads directly from your cdbaby.com page, right?

But did you also know:

* - You can set the price at whatever you want, anytime you want.

* - You get 91% of the MP3 selling price! Set it to $15? You make $13.65. Set it to $8? You make $7.28. That's way more money in your pocket than ANY other store can give you.

* - You get to know WHO bought your music immediately! Their name, email, location, and everything is permanently saved in your account so you can keep in touch with your fans. (No other store gives you this.)

* - You get paid the following week, unlike other stores that make you wait up to 2 months.

* - Not to brag, but we've sold over $600,000 in MP3 downloads in the last few months, with NO marketing or announcements at all. That already puts CD Baby ahead of Emusic, Yahoo Music, Sony Connect, Verizon, MSN Music, Snocap and every company except iTunes, Rhapsody, and Napster, as you can see here : http://cdbaby.org/stories/07/09/07/3490238.html

* - Customers buy your entire album as one zip download, which includes not just the MP3s, but also a JPG of the album art, and a text file of song titles, album notes, and links back to your websites!

* - They're regular MP3 files that play easy on ANY MP3 player your fans use, whether iPod, cellphone, Blackberry, iPhone, Nokia, Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.

* - The MP3s are encoded at top-audiophile-quality (~200k VBR), higher than iTunes or any other major store.

* - See http://cdbaby.com/mp3

Derek Sivers, CD Baby, http://cdbaby.com
the only MP3 store that really loves you

P.S. To change the selling price of your MP3 album, just go to https://members.cdbaby.com/ to log in, then click [YOUR ITEMS] up top, EDIT ALBUM INFO next to your album, and edit "Basic important album info". All changes are instant.

P.P.S. Want to see how the MP3-album-download process works, so you know what to tell your fans? Temporarily set your MP3 album price to $5, visit your own page to buy it with your credit card or PayPal account, download it to see how it works, and you'll get $4.55 on your next check, as you would with any other sale. (Your $5 sale minus our 9% cut.) So in the end that educational research project would have only cost you a whopping 45 cents. Try it!

Lonnie's "Spotlight Songs"

Redneck, Alabama

Written by Lonnie Ratliff and Erin Hay "Redneck, Alabama" is a look at Southern culture through the eyes of a 16 year old girl who feels she is trapped in an intolerable life and takes what she sees as the only way out.  Idea probably came from reading too much William Faulkner.
  Male Vocals by Stan Cox
.... Female Vocals by Erin Hay

"Redneck Alabama"
(Lonnie Ratliff / Erin Hay)

(Verse 1)
She never liked the way that Alabama clay
Would cling when it stuck to her bare feet
One more heavy burden, tellin' her for certain
She's in Redneck, Alabama on a dead end street

(Verse 2)
Raised up like an outcast heard 'em whisper white trash
But words alone she knows don't make it so
Mem'ries will remind her they could have all been kinder
But in Redneck, Alabama that's the way it goes

(Chorus)
     In Redneck, Alabama
    There's no sweet home memories
     When you're sixteen and pretty
All you know is you gotta leave
     And there's a man in a Cadillac
     With a hundred dollar bill
     Out of Redneck, Alabama
     The roads all run uphill

(Bridge)
She tucks that hundred dollar bill into her dimestore purse
Leaves yesterday behind and prays tomorrow won't be worse

(Repeat Chorus)

Lonnie Ratliff / Erin Hay

.
This is a first draft of a song I am working on.  Funny that I have never written any cowboy songs in my life until this last year and now I am working on 3 or 4.  Not sure why but they are kinda fun to work with. It all started after I recorded a version of Red River Valley on the Mike Anderson CD I produced. Lonnie
.
The Cowboys Last Message

The cattle are quiet now there's peace in the valley
One lonesome coyote howls through the night
A cowboy stands watch, the cattle are lowing
It's a time for reflecting looking back on his life

He's lived his lifetime by the code of the cowboy
A Western desciple of the true cowboy way
He's put things in order for his last final roundup
Now he's  leavin'  this message before he rides away

       (Chorus)
Here's to the ones riding behind me
Keep your powder dry and your eye on the trail
There's a right and a wrong way for each choice we're makin'
And sometimes the right way will be a hard sell

He ain't leaving behind no worldly treasures
Just looking for a way to say I've been here
There was more to my life than a bed in the bunkhouse
I leave an untarnished memory and a message that's clear

       (Chorus)
Here's to the ones riding behind me
Keep your powder dry and your eye on the trail
There's a right and a wrong way for each choice we're makin'
And sometimes the right way will be a hard sell

Tag: But when it's all said & done you gotta live with yourself

Oklahoma Country Singer Ron Wayne Atwood  http://www.myspace.com/ronwayneatwood   has developed a new breed of horses by breeding the world famous 1/4 horse with a Kentucky Thoroughbred race horse.
He is raising these horses on his Vinita, Oklahoma plantation and calling them the Atwood Half-Horse
As demand is expected to be great for the Atwood Half Horse Ron Wayne is making sure his friends in the music business get the first shot at buying one of these wonderful animals.  These horses are energy efficient and endorsed by Al Gore as they only consume 1/2 the energy of a regular horse and leave a minimum carbon footprint on the earth (because they only have half as many feet).  They are also well suited pets for people who tend to pretty much do everything half-assed.
All of the colts have been sold at the present time but if you will E Mail Ron Wayne roadagents@esagelink.com  he can put one of next years foals on hold for you.  Please include the name you will be giving your new pony as this will tell Mr. Atwood a lot about what kind of owner you will make should you end up with one of the Atwood Half-Horses.

...Hi Lonnie! I think its about time I participate with a little gossip!
A lot of great things are happening these days..
First of all Somebody's Angel made a big jump on NMW MAIN COUNTRY CHART! Its now now placed as number 17! On the INDIES ONLY It just climbed number 11. Its absolutely amazing, and I would strongly suggest anybody who is considering to get any kind of promotion, to get in touch with either Gary or Rhonnie! Or even better.. BOTH :0)

I was just invited to play at Scandinavian Countryfestival in Furuvik, Sweden in August! I´m really looking forward to this gig, as I will be performing in the primetime right after the great legend Johnny Bush!

As you might know, I´m working on a new single these days called "Wildhorse" It will be my first attempt as a songwriter.. So it will be interresting to see if I should just keep the pen in my pocket and consentrate on the singing he,he. Anyway I had a lot of fun doing it, and I think it turned out pretty well!

Besides from that I´m planning to go and see one of Joni´s gigs in Sweeden next month.. She is performing with one of the best bands on these parts, so I think it will be one great consert!!!

Well thats about all for now! Looking forward to go to Nashville and do our session!

Wayne's new CD "Be All You Can Be" will be available on CDBaby within the next week.  His song, "America's Best Friend"  has been getting a lot of radio play in the Central Minnesota region.  Wayne says, "I heard myself on the radio for the first time.  At Burger King!  I reacted just like in the movies, hollering, "Hey, That's my song they're playing!"  The song was played on the local radio station all day as Litchfield, MN. welcomed home some troops from Iraq.  "They played it for the troops after they were dismissed at the National Guard Armory.  If nothing else ever happens to this song, I've had my reward!"

The Old Quarter

By

Lonnie Ratliff

click quarter above for info

I guess your first car is a big event for everyone and I was surely no exception to that rule. When you are the oldest of seven kids in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma in 1965 it is not one of those automatic things where when you turn 16 years old a new red Mustang convertible shows up in the driveway. I never had any trouble understanding the reality of my situation and was comfortable with the fact that if I wanted a car I would have to figure out some way to buy it on my own.

Also if you lived in rural Pushmataha County you knew there was not many ways to make money especially for teenagers and especially not enough money to buy a car. I was telling my Grandpa Ratliff about my predicament which was mostly just me thinking out loud because I knew there was nothing he could do about it and I was not even thinking that he might. Grandpa and Grandma Ratliff lived on their old age pension check and as everyone in Southeast Oklahoma would say, they were as poor as old Job’s turkey. I don’t think I even thought my Grandpa was listening to me but when I got through with my sad tale he said come here Lonnie Carl. The use of my middle name meant it was either important or I was in a whole lot of trouble. Since I had done nothing to get in trouble for I got up off the porch steps and walked over to his rocking chair wondering what he had in mind. He dug in his pocket and pulled out an old quarter unlike anything I had ever seen. He said isn’t one of your friends at school a coin collector ? I told him yes that Jimmy Maple collected old coins and he had bought a couple of Indian head pennies from me a week or so before. I guess my Grandpa listened to me a lot more than I ever thought he did because he had remembered that. He said why don’t you see if that old quarter is worth anything and if it is you can sell it to him and use the money to help buy you a car. I knew this was a pretty heavy duty moment in both our lives even though I was only sixteen years old and not quite sure how to handle the situation. I am thankful that I was well mannered enough to tell him I better not take his old quarter because I knew he had carried it around for years and it was probably pretty important to him. He didn’t go into any long drawn out explanations but just said no Lonnie I want you to have it or I wouldn’t have offered it to you so go see if you can figure out a way to get you a car from it. About 30 years later I finally figured out why I think he did it and I am glad now he got to share in that first old car that neither one of us could afford.

The old quarter was an 1896 S mint which meant on top of being old it was also very rare as it was minted at the San Francisco Mint which only minted a few of these coins. I had a coin collector’s book that was a couple of years old Jimmy Maple had given me but I knew it would at least give me a general idea of what Grandpa’s old quarter was worth. When we got back home I dug out the coin book and checked to see what the quarter was worth. I was quite pleased to see that at the time of the coin book’s printing it was worth about $16 so I knew it would be worth at least that much since it was now a couple of years older. I knew Jimmy would buy it and that he would have the money because his father owned the Chevrolet dealership there in Antlers, Oklahoma and they were a pretty well to do family. I also knew that my buddy Bobby Satterfield had parked his    "click" car photo old 1948 Ford sedan out under a tree last fall when he had gotten a better car and he had told me he would sell it to me for $17.50 . It was looking like I was going to end up with my first car thanks to Grandpa Ratliff’s old quarter so I couldn’t wait for the weekend to be over and I could move forward with my plan.

Artists shopping for a record deal.

I guess one of the most asked guestions in the world has to be "How do I go about getting a record deal".  Well that is pretty easy to answer. No one knows.  Every deal is different.  I do know that you have to do a few things to increase the odds of a label paying any attention to you.  You need a photo, a demo and a bio.  Once you have those if you start to get some interest you will have something that represents you and your little package can get passed around to people who might be able to help you.
Photos are simple enough.  There's lots of people out there in the world that can take a decent photo so find one.  Just use common sense and make sure the photo represents you.
The demo can be a simple clean version of you singing the Star Spangled Banner or Amazing Grace but if you can't sing it better than it has ever been sung before you may want to spend a few bucks on a little more advanced demo.  If you can find you an original song that sounds like it could be the next "Jesus Take The Wheel" you will have moved yourself to the front of the line when it comes to getting a record deal.
The last thing is a one page bio.  Show some creativity here in the one phase of getting a record deal that don't cost you a dime.  If you are going to try to tell some label you think you can write songs remember they are going to read your bio and if it sounds like 99% of the bios on MYSPACE and starts out with how you started singing 72 hours BEFORE you were conceived and you have always dreamed of singing your songs for the world don't be surprised if they don't believe you are gonna be the next Kris Kristofferson.  Last but not least don't bother people in the business until you have these 3 basic things a photo, a demo and a bio.
