..................

Ernie Ashworth is an American country music singer and longtime star of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.

Born Ernest Bert Ashworth in Huntsville, Alabama, on December 15, 1928, he began his career singing on Huntsville radio station WBHP. In 1949, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he worked for several radio stations and was signed by Wesley Rose as a songwriter for Acuff-Rose Music. Among the artists who recorded his songs between 1949 and 1955 were Jimmy Dickens, Carl Smith, Johnny Horton and Paul Anka.

However, success as a recording artist eluded him and in 1957, he returned to Huntsville and began working at the Redstone Arsenal, doing guided missile work. Three years later, Rose arranged a recording contract for him with Decca Records. Billed as "Ernest Ashworth," his first single, "Each Moment (Spent With You)," became a Top 5 Hit. Later that year, "You Can’t Pick A Rose In December" went into the Top 10 and in 1961, "Forever Gone" went into the Top 20.

In 1962, he moved to Hickory Records, the label owned by Acuff-Rose, and he scored a Top 5 Hit with "Everybody But Me" and a Top 10 with "I Take The Chance."

But it was his third release for Hickory that would become his signature song and the Number 1 smash. “Talk Back Trembling Lips” stayed on the national charts for 42 weeks and also did quite well on the pop charts.

Voted "Most Promising Male Artist" by Cashbox, Billboard and Record World in 1963 and 1964, he was invited to join the cast of the Grand Ole Opry in 1964. More chart records followed including "The D.J. Cried," "At Ease Heart" and "I Love To Dance With Annie." Ashworth continued to be a regular performer at the Grand Ole Opry, but he never had a record to match the success of "Talk Back Trembling Lips".

In 1989, he turned businessman by purchasing radio station WSLV in Ardmore, Tennessee. In 1992, Ashworth was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Always a popular performer overseas, he had a Number 1 song on the Independent National Charts, "Lonely Only Bar," in 1999 and was also named the "Number 1 Most Programmed Independent Artist in Europe" that same year.

Ashworth is still active as a recording artist and makes appearances at the Grand Ole Opry. He spends much of his time tending to the affairs of his radio stations in Ardmore and Gallatin, Tennessee.

Ernie was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame on February 22, 2008.[1]

Are you sitting on a "Hit Song" ?

I have decided there is just too much good country music out there that the public never gets to hear and the main reason is the lack of money or the knowledge of how to get it into the right hands.  I honestly believe if you have a hit song that nowdays you do not need a big music machine behind you.  All that matters is if the public likes your song or not.  With that in mind I have set up my online music company to where I believe you can have a decent shot at finding out for $150.  Now keep in mind that there is a real good chance that the song you and your girlfriend or boyfriend and your close friends and family think is the next big thing may end up disappointing you.  In the past it would have cost you several thousand dollars to find this out.  It will still cost you that much if you are naive enough to give someone the money.

I have been promoting country music since 1978 so I do have a reasonale understanding of what I am doing and I believe I will probably get more work than I can handle soon and then be able to raise my prices from this ridiculously low $150.

This is what you get with the package.  I will E Mail an mp3 of your song to 550+ Internet and AM & FM radio stations that I have contacted who agreed to accept mp3's.

I will build you a YouTube SlideShow (similar to the one below) and include a link so the DJ's can watch it if they choose to.

I will furnish a LINK to wherever you have your song for sell at (CDBABY - I-Tunes - AMAZON.com - Your Website) or your E Mail if you want the DJ's to contact you.

I will forward any comments about your song that I get from the DJ's to you and keep an eye on the Playlist Boards to see who is playing you.

I will TRACK your song for 5 weeks so it is only costing you $30 a week to find out if you have a hit or not.

Keep in mind that I will not be calling the DJ's and begging them to play your song.  I only make it available to them and they can choose to play it or not.  I have a reputation of only working good songs so they will at least give it a listen so you have got a shot.  After that it is up to the song.  If you want someone to call them and promote your song I can get you set up with a promoter for about $3500 for 6 weeks but I have no interest in doing that type of promotion myself.

All I will need from you is an mp3 of the song (I will pass on anything I don't want my name associated with) 2 or 3 PHOTOS of you for the YouTube (.jpg)  The links to your website and where you are selling the song if applicable and $150 - I can accept Credit Cards through PayPal.

Attn: DJ's - This is a nice uptempo song from Nova Scotia artist Lynn Chisholm with a nice little sassy attitude that should make your listeners ears perk up.  Song idea is based on the fact that back in the 50's Doctors would recommend that patients with T.B. or any other respiratory disease move to Arizona because the climate there would usually help them to live much longer.  In this song Lynn isn't sick of anything except that rotten man she's leaving behind in California.

Remember to take a second to E mail me back and let me know if you plan on playing it in your shows and I would really appreciate any comments you might have about the artist and/or the song.  Thanks a lot -  Lonnie Ratliff  NashvilleShowcase@comcast.net

“Christmas 2008: The Last Year of the Retail CD.”

Music Industry Must Move Away from Retail CD and Invest in Online Distribution

Stamford, Conn., The music industry must move away from the retail CD as its primary revenue generator before Christmas 2009, according to Gartner. Gartner said that reliance on revenue from the sale of prerecorded CDs is hindering the music industry from fully embracing online distribution opportunities.

“By propping up the CD business, rather than fully investing in online distribution alternatives, the major labels and the larger music industry have neither succeeded in stamping out piracy nor done much to recreate the business models of the old ‘record business,’” said Mike McGuire, research vice president at Gartner. “Music labels should instead emphasize ’digital first,’ making all new releases and catalog issues via digital services and moving CDs to an on-demand publishing mode.”

In 2007, online distribution represented about 23 percent of revenue in the U.S, and about 15 percent worldwide. Gartner said that while the music industry’s reliance on the disc worked well from 1985 though the U.S. market’s revenue peak in 2000, CD sales are now dropping rapidly in major markets worldwide and are unlikely to regain market share. As a percentage of total revenue in the U.S. market, physical media (CDs, LPs, DVD-A and so on) have gone from 91 percent of revenue in 2005 to 77 percent in 2007 and there is also evidence that physical retailers are even reducing the physical floor space dedicated to CDs.

Enabling the transition away from retail music CDs toward online distribution is now in sight, given that 77 percent of U.S. households (a total of 96 million connections) will have broadband connections by 2012. Beyond these consumers, the alternative distribution afforded by Wi-Fi-enabled notebooks and rapidly improving media-enabled mobile phones pose opportunities that provide multiple paths for marketing, promotion and distribution outside the consumer’s home.

By eliminating the cost of the CDs through a new burn-on-demand model, labels could cut out the expense of trying to anticipate demand and reduce costs associated with shipping. Songs or albums would always be distributed online first, leveraging the burgeoning social network sector as awareness and promotional tools to drive sales at online sites, and the growing number of mobile music services.

“The industry’s comfort with past marketing and promotional practices centered on CD launches is ingrained and difficult to give up. But the reality is that digital natives and immigrants are more interested in convenience and choice,” said Mr. McGuire. “
This is not to say that the physical CD would disappear altogether. Rather, it could shift to being a promotional tool to be sold or given away at concerts for example.”

As well as the move toward ‘digital first,’ Gartner recommends that labels focus on the limitless ways digital content (that is, songs, videos, lyrics and communiquйs) can be delivered, consumed and monetized. Gartner also advocates the development of comprehensive and flexible licensing regimes to fully optimize online services.

BETHLEHEM STEEL

Life is a little nuts.
You never know what it's up to.

After knocking around every bar in the Miami area,
from luxury hotels to creepy back street dumps,
Misty and I lucked into a pretty good job at El Bolero Steak House.

El Bolero was a Coral Gables supper club,
and our band played dance music for the classy clientèle...
me in black mohair suit and silver tie, and Misty in evening gowns.

Larry King, some movie actors, and big time politicians were regulars.
Richard Nixon came in and played the piano.
It was that kind of a joint.

We stayed there about three years,
which beat our previous record of three weeks.
But, we were going nowhere, careerwise.

I wrote and directed the music for a short movie about the Everglades.
As a result, artists started asking me to produce for them.
I commuted to Nashville for two or three years as a producer for other artists,
before Misty and I ever got to record.
We still needed a big change, and soon,
so we decided to take a chance.

We worked out a new image for ourselves,
which was the exact opposite of the old suit and gown.
I stopped getting haircuts, got some radical sunglasses,
bought a bunch of wild clothes,
and a pair of English riding boots which I wore outside the tight pants.
I looked a like a hippie Captain America.

Misty went with micro-mini skirts and boots
which got us tossed out of a couple of snooty restaurants.
She changed her name from Maryanne to Misty,
and I wrote some new songs for duets.
The first one was "Bethlehem Steel",
a composite of the Buffalo factories where I'd worked.

We booked a gig at the Gold Coast Lounge in Key West.
and thought everybody would laugh at the way we looked, but they didn't.
They ate it up.

I sang in my new rough voice, which is now the only one I have,
and we opened with "Bethlehem Steel".
The crowd, mostly sailors, went wild,
and the place became packed every night.

This was a huge surprise to us.
We were doing almost all original songs, country with a touch of rock and blues,
which was a new thing in those days.
Misty sang her strange harmony and everything seemed to be working.

In just a couple of weeks we were offered a recording contract,
and went to make our first Jack and Misty recording in Nashville.
Our first single release "Bethlehem Steel", got a "Pick" in Billboard,
and went about half way up the chart.

There were two more singles, and then "Tennessee Birdwalk".
Things moved fast after that.
I wonder if my old Captain America suit still fits?

You can listen to the song here...

"BETHLEHEM STEEL" LYRICS...

Well, I'm making big money workin' at Bethlehem Steel...
And I drive a big car
And I look like a pretty big wheel.
But I'd rather be home now plowin' a Tennessee field,
Instead of making big money
Workin' at Bethlehem Steel

(Chorus.)
Guess I better get goin' now.
I better get on home now.
Goodbye honey, goodbye money,
Goodbye automobile.
Goodbye honey, goodbye money,
Goodbye Bethlehem Steel.

Well, I spend all the money I'm making at Bethlehem Steel
Just to satisfy a woman
Who don't understand how I feel.
How I'd love to sit down to a home cooked Tennessee meal,
Instead of making big money
Workin' at Bethlehem Steel.

(Repeat chorus.)

My only musical accomplishments in 2008 was an extra high note in the bath
one day but I have managed to get a few articles published and plans for my
web services site are near completion. I have a complete first draft novel
on file and two new clients who are happy with their web sites!

In 2009, I hope to have my novel 'publisher-ready' and sent somewhere; my
web services site revamped and to start a new novel.

Hi Lonnie,  Happy New Year to you, and all my friends from around the world who may read this in your newsletter.
After 52 years of singing country music, I have now officially retired from full time touring.  Still a few 'one-off' shows to complete in 2009 in the spring and summer months, but most of my time in 2009 will be spent in editing, scripting and releasing more double DVD's in my 'From the Archive' series, taken from old Betamax, camcorder film and TV footage, and perhaps at long last getting some of my music (over 300 recorded songs) on the world wide web.  I will also work on my Sylvantone Music publishing catalogue of mainly traditional country music songs.
My webpage is www.tonygoodacre.com and this will also be updated in 2009 when all additional recordings are complete and available.  Meanwhile a free 20 page brochure listing all 22 current CD albums and 9 double DVD packages is available.  e-mail me at tonygoodacre@hotmail.com with a full postal address, and it will be sent to you worldwide.
N.B.only two of the DVD's are currently available on the North American NTSC system.
Keeping on keeping it country, Tony Goodacre.

2008 was a good year, cant say all that bad..I had mine and my husband's health, great friends, etc.  Went to Australia for 3 weeks with Becky Hobbs and Kacey Jones.  There were a few eye openers in 2008 which lead me to my 2009.  My husband and I have started our own label, Little Hollow Records, www.littlehollowrecords.com.  Everything you need to know is there, no need to go into detail here.  Regrets in 2008 is trusting too many people.  My resolution in 2009, continue to trust but with caution.   If I didnt want to believe good and trust in all people then I would not have met the lifelong friends that I do have.  2009 also brings more commitment to my non-profit organization, Kisses for Kids which I have been diligently working with MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) lately on the annual walkathon and a local young man here in my county where I live who has Duchenne, a form of Muscular Dystrophy.  There will be more fundraisers, etc. so my organization can help many children year round.  2009 also brings me doing more locally and hopefully abroad with my music.  If there is a place to play, I will find it! 2009 also brings me to continuing to help my fellow indie artists in whatever aspect I can help them.  I still believe that we cannot accomplish anything without helping each other instead of using knives! haha LOVE TO ALL, HOPE TO SEE YOU IN YOUR TOWN, STATE, OR COUNTRY 2009 !!

What a great year '2008' has been for me, I've met some wonderful people and had many new adventures in the music field.  I'd like to personally thank Gary Bradshaw and Lonnie Ratliff for the support and encouragement they've given me.  The DJ's have been wonderful, playing my music, and 2008 has been a great experience, and I thank all my new friends and fans.
I am hoping that '2009' will be just as rewarding.  I plan to work on a new album and can't wait to see what the New Year brings.  Happy New Year Everyone, I hope all your resolutions and wishes come true.

Hi Lonnie,

I had a pretty good year in 2008. But as with anything in life there is always room for improvement. In 2009 I am shooting for a #1 song and to hit Billboard and/or Music Row. So my aim for 2009 is to push even harder than I did in 2008 and show everyone just how serious I am about my music. I am also aiming to release another video and album. Thank you fans and radio DJ's around the world for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Trinity Lane

My New Years Resolution is to not give in to the direction country music is trying to take away from the traditional country route that was paved long ago. I plan to record another cd with traditional country and hear the whine of a steel guitar under a neon light of a down to earth backwoods honky tonk.

===========================================================

Hi Lonnie,

I just read your newsletter, and here are my thoughts on musical New Year's resolutions:

First of all, I think even the superstars in our business would always find room for improvement somewhere. That is what keeps their careers strong. As for myself, I have mixed feelings about 2008 as far as my music.
Hear My Confession was my only single release of the year, other than my remake of the beautiful carol Oh Little Town of Bethlehem. I will try to have more singles next year, maybe even two new CD's. On the positive side, the two songs mentioned above were both recorded on a new computer I was given for Christmas in 2007. The DJ's overseas and on the Internet who gave me any feedback says my sound has improved recording this way. One Canadian DJ who does not play my music at least did admit to me that the sound quality has improved from the old recording system.
Another resolution of mine is to get everything done faster. Last year, between programming cover tunes for bar gigs, learning to record on my new equipment, and doing a bit of session work for others here and there, I got behind a bit on everything. To any other artists affected by the delays, I extend my most sincere apologies.
Lonnie, thanks for including website links. Anyone who wants to hear my music online can find it at www.soundclick.com/stananderson.

Happy New Year,

Stan

Lonnie Ratliff ~ Record Production~ 5 Songs

1. Cost for 5 songs is $3,750 (Three Thousand Seven Hundred & Fifty Dollars). This includes Studio, Musicians, Etc! and you end up with a mixed CD of your project. There are not a lot of hidden costs that will be tacked on. The only additional costs I can think of would be $150 if you want us to Master it for you before it goes to your pressing plant. (Call me and I can explain Mastering to you) The other thing that could cost you later is that you might have to pay songwriter royalties if you have recorded someone elses songs and are gonna include it on your CD to sell. (Example = If you want to record a George Strait song or a Taylor Swift song then you will have to pay a royalty to use that song) I can help point you in the right direction to obtain a license from the Harry Fox Agency.

2. For those artist who are new at this, Production is just about getting your songs recorded and ready to be made into CD's that you can sell. I don't press up the 500 or 1000 CD's for you but I can recommend Karen Bruno at Amazon Audio who can take care of everything for you. I believe it costs about $1500 for a 1000 CD's. A lot of the artists I produce will cut a couple of 5 song sessions with me and then put them together and press up a CD they can sell and get their money back.

3. First thing we need to do is figure out if we can work together and come up with something we can both be proud of. You can listen to the artists I have produced (Click Here) and get an idea of what I do. If you are a decent singer and I believe we can make a respectable recording then I will probably be glad to work with you.

4. Deposits & Payments: The first thing required is a $200 deposit and once that is paid we can start putting together your session. I will help you find the songs if needed and will arrange them for you using any ideas you may have. Once we find the songs and have picked a date you send me the balance of $3,550 at least 2 weeks before the session date and I book your session at a studio on Music Row. I normally use Dixiana Studio. We will cut the basic tracks and overdubs there and then cut the final vocals, harmonies and mix at Smokehouse studio.

5. The Band normally will consist of Bass, Drums, Rhythm Guitar, Piano, Steel Guitar, Fiddle, Dobro, Electric Guitar & Mandolin. If I believe a particular song calls for a specialty instrument I will use it and there is no additional charge. I do not try to cut corners by taking short cuts on the musicians we use.

6. Original songs. I have about 200 songs in my Music Publishing Company that you are welcome to use (Royalty Free) if you are using them on any project I produce.

7. Time it will take to record. Figure that it will take about 3 days in the studio. If you are on a tight schedule you're part will be over in two days. First day we cut the tracks with a scratch vocal and the second day you will sing your final vocals. I figure you will have up to 45 minutes to sing each song.

8. Practice Guitar tracks if needed. If you think you may have trouble singing any of the songs you pick and do not play an instrument I can record and send you an acoustic guitar track of the song so you can practice it before you come to Nashville.

9. Final thoughts. Keep in mind that you are hiring me to make you sound good and I take my job very seriously. I will do my best to see that you have a good time in the studio. I work with some of the best studio musicians in Nashville and they will do everything in their power to make the best recording of your music as possible. Feel free to E Mail any of the artists I have worked with (Click Here) before and ask them any questions you may have about working with me. Once you have paid your deposit I am on your team and you can call (615) 742 0666 and ask me any questions you have and I will try my best to give you an answer. Probably half of the artist I work with are recording their first CD and have a lot of questions so don't be embarrassed to ask about anything you don't understand.

I look forward to working with you and hope I can be a part of your musical future.

Lonnie’s Economy Recording Music Package

Check out my little side business. For you artists that can’t afford the time or money to come to Nashville to record right now or just need a song or two to finish out your CD or to put up on MYSPACE etc! - I have a website of songs I own the Master Recordings on and I can lease you the music track and furnish you with a Mechanical license so you are 100% legal for $250 - The only catch is that you have to be able to sing them in the key they are recorded in so just go to the website below to find out. They are much like the Karaoke tracks you buy except most of them are original songs though not all of them and you will have a Mechanical License giving you the right to use the songs. You can post it on MYSPACE, YouTube, Sing it on American Idol, Put it on your CD to sell or sell downloads of it on the internet.  You can pay for these music tracks with your credit card if you prefer. I then mail you a CD with the music track and you just take it into your local recording studio and add your vocals and harmony and you got it. If this sounds like something you may be interested in just go to my website below and see if there is anything you like there that is in your key. I have most of the Lyrics posted. Just “Click” on lyrics to see them. Any questions just E Mail me  NashvilleShowcase@comcast.net

NOTE from Lonnie - I always feel a little guilty because I never have time to listen to mp3's new artists and songwriters send me, unsolicited I might add.  I hate it but I just delete them because I finally figured out I could try to be a nice guy or I could try to work and pay my bills.  My banker had a very stern suggestion that I needed to keep working and be a nice guy on my own time after all my bills were paid.  Turns out that spare time does not exist so I just had to give up on listening to unsolicited mp3's, CD's and giving my opinions and suggestions.  Now I just concentrate on my music business out of necessity but I figure I can give you some links that will answer your questions better than I could anyway.

Lynn Chisholm comments on her CD produced by Lonnie Ratliff

myspace.com/lynnchisholmmusic

Since I recorded  this project 'Follow Your Heart' in Nashville this past summer with my good friend and producer Lonnie Ratliff, it has been a whirl wind. Shortly after the release I got an email  from a Canadian Troops supported requesting the song 'Midnight At The Old Soldiers Home' for a compliation cd being sent to our troops in Afganastan for Christmas. I am so excited about this. Just after that Remembrance Day was approaching and I had been asked to sing this song at a Rembrance Day Service in my County. This was powerful with some of the vets in front row seat. Check out the youtube video for this.
Since my release of Follow Your Heart with a near full house at Strathspey Place, Mabou I have been getting a number of phone calls wanting me to play in venues across Nova Scotia. I am currently working with a local band I just became acquainted with and playing just about every weekend and selling a good number of cds from the stage! Just before Christmas I recieved a phone call from a well known artists here  in Nova Scotia by the name of Terry Kelly wanting me to come to the city of Halifax and do a cd release with 'Follow Your Heart'. This is an exciting invitation and a great start to my 2009 year. My goal right now is to reach as many Nova Scotia venues as I can and have a lot of fun doing it. So far so good. Happy New Year to all my music friends near and far.

Below are some of the artists I have produced so you can give them a listen to see if you like the sound I am getting and you can contact them to get a reference on how they liked working with me.  No matter if you choose to have me or someone else produce your next recording project make sure you check us out.  If you can't hear samples of a producer's  previous work or correspond with someone who has worked with them then it is too early to be writing anyone a check.  Just because someone sends you an e mail telling you they think you are the hottest thing since Garth Brooks or Shania Twain doesn't mean they are a good honest producer.  Check everyone out that you do business with BEFORE you write the check and you won't end up being one of those artists that gets scammed. - Lonnie  _ E Mail me at:  NashvilleShowcase@comcast.net
